Ceremonial Medicine Belt

These ceremonial belts, also known as Chumbes, are worn and used by shamans during any variety of healing rituals and ceremonies. The shaman, which can be of either gender, traditionally wears the sash to protect their own energetic field. The Chumbe from Colombia or Chumpi for the Incas, is a term used referring to the belts of living energy that surrounded the human body to make up the human ‘bubble’ or energy field. This ceremonial sash is said to protect your belly button from any energy entering, and your own energy leaking. Our Chumbe or Chumpi belts are beautifully woven pieces hand made by Colombian Indigenous.  It is also a wonderful example of the indigenous artisan craftsmanship.

Our Chumbes are unfinished on both ends. The wearer of the belt has the option of pulling the fabric around the waist, finishing with a knot and letting both ends hang loose. Or adjusting one end close to the body, then pulling the rest of the fabric around the waist and making a fold into the belt so one end is hanging loose.
